In the world of disruptive tech there is no other more famous person alive than Elon Musk. A genius in his own right and someone who is literally shaping the future of the world with his multiple companies that are each doing the most amazing things. Tesla is driving to make the electric car cool; SpaceX is making space travel affordable; Hyperloop is making long distance and super fast land travel affordable; the Boring Company that is solving traffic congestion in overcrowded streets by attaching skates to cars in an underground tunnel to speed them across the city and many more. So you catch my drift of the kind of impact he’s having on the world.
In this article I explore the latest release from Elon via Tesla – The Tesla Semi and wait for it, a surprise reveal of the Tesla Roadster. As a techie, this was the biggest event of the year and has got me uber-excited.
The Tesla Semi – revolutionising trucking!
First up, the Semi, I’m not a trucker, haven’t been remotely interested in trucks but this jump in tech has got me jumping with excitement for reasons I can not fully explain.
- A great looking rig with a centre seat,
- 500 miles on a full charge,
- Auto pilot by default in every rig,
- A mega charger to charge the the mega batteries powering this thing
- All of that and it’s electric! Zero pollution! Good for the earth!
- and so much more.
And this isn’t making truckers obsolete, it’s just making their jobs a delight! .. until the autopilots take over that is – but thats a conversation for another day. The benefits are enormous!
- Lesser downtime
- Better diagnostics of the rig at the palm of your hands
- Safer trucking using Autopilot when the driver is either sleepy or in distress
- Reduced jack-knifing – which is a frequent thing i’ve learnt
- A faster more efficient rig in general
I’m not a trucker and I wanna get one of these!! Available 2018 if you’re interested as well – https://www.tesla.com/semi/
The Tesla Roadster 2.0 – The next generation Hypercar for a fraction of the price!
For the main reveal, the one they did such a good job of keeping under wraps that no one even had a hint of it showing up! Tesla made a Hypercar that’s just a sports car and without even trying with the base model specs it can beat the best most expensive, 15 times more expensive, hypercar without breaking a sweat. Not only can it go faster, it can go longer too. Though I do find it suspicious that he didn’t mention autopilot for this beast, though I’m sure it’s in there. All that and a removable glass roof too!
Just looking at those specs, and that comparison alone gives me hope for the future. This man without doubt has already changed the future and he’s not even half way there. My only regret is that I wasn’t born with the mind like that of Elon, and my wish is if I do somehow end up with such a mind, I make such good use of it. A mixture of envy and admiration at this point.
And guess what, there’s going to be a high end model to this car that’s probably just going to blow us away without a doubt.
If I had the money I’d preorder mine right away even though these deliver only in 2020. But then again if I had the money I’d have a Model X P100D sitting in the driveway too. A tesla, needless to say, is definitely a car I want to own in the near future.
Some production car 1/4 mile times:
- Nissan GTR: 10.8s
- Lamborghini Aventador SV: 10.4s
- McLaren P1: 9.8s
